Association of Volunteers

Each volunteer who completes three months of service at Women's becomes a member of the Association of Volunteers, Women's College Hospital. The association began as the Cradle Club, nearly a century ago, in 1915. In addition to rocking new babies, the early members of the Cradle Club helped the hospital by knitting, sewing and raising funds for equipment.

As women's role in society has changed over the past 90 years, so has the role of the association of volunteers. This dedicated group of people now supports the hospital financially, as well as through volunteer service. The association raises funds in a number of ways, including:

  • The Ankh Gift Shop
  • Used-books sales
  • Raffles and lobby sales
  • Personal and corporate donations

These activities support a number of vital programs within the hospital, including the:

  • WRAP (Women Recovering From Abuse Program)
  • Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Care Centre
  • Bereavement Program for Parents
  • Women’s College Research Institute
  • Purchase of hospital equipment
  • Capital campaign

With an elected executive and a strong membership, the association plays a vital role in the hospital, and is represented on the hospital's board of directors. Members enjoy the fellowship of dinner meetings and social events and are always encouraged to become more actively involved.

The association is a crucial link between the hospital and the community at large.
