Principles of Women's Health

Women's College Hospital provides services and care according to these principles of women's health:

  • The Empowerment of Women - We provide you with the information you need in order to make informed decisions about the care you receive. You will actively participate in the decisions about your care. Women's College Hospital actively seeks input and feedback from the community at large. We regularly ask our clients to evaluate our programs.
  • Accessible Programs - We ensure that our programs are as accessible to as many people as possible. We do this by:
    - Having flexible schedules
    - Demonstrating sensitivity to differences of culture and language
    - Allowing members of the public to refer themselves directly to many of our programs, without having to see a physician first.
  • Broad Definition of Health Care - Our definition of health care includes the prevention of disease and the promotion of health. We have programs aimed at both of these goals. Our clients receive care in a manner that is appropriate to and informed by their stage in a woman's life cycle. We also have flexible arrangements for providing care, in order to accommodate our clients' varied schedules and lifestyles.
  • High Quality of Care - We deliver a high quality of care. This care is compassionate, empathetic, and acknowledges the choices that individual women make, based on their own unique experiences and perceptions.
  • Collaborative Planning - We take a team approach, involving health professionals from a variety of disciplines, to the delivery of care. The community is an active partner in our activities.
  • Innovative and Creative Approaches - We approach research in women's health and respond to contemporary health issues in a way that is innovative and creative.
