Women’s College Hospital (WCH) is pleased to welcome Dr. David Urbach as the new surgeon‐in‐chief and medical director, perioperative services.

Dr. Urbach is joining WCH from the University Health Network where he is the surgical director of the bariatric surgery program and a globally‐recognized researcher in the area of surgical quality improvement. His formal training in epidemiology and his many leadership positions in health services research make him a terrific addition to Women’s College Research Institute. He is a prolific researcher, a surgical innovator and a highly respected leader across the system. He was selected for the position after an international search that had representation from across WCH, University of Toronto and the healthcare system.

Dr. Urbach is excited about the innovative mission of WCH and the organization’s commitment to equity. His established leadership in new models of care to promote patient access and improve surgical quality make him a natural addition to the WCH Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), which he has now joined as a Senior Innovation Fellow. We look forward to his leadership in pushing the envelope of ambulatory surgery in partnership with the dedicated and talented members of his department.

Welcome to Women’s College Hospital, Dr. Urbach!

The hospital also thanks Dr. John Semple, the outgoing surgeon‐in‐chief, for his outstanding leadership and many accomplishments in the role over the last decade.
