Celebrate Pride Month with WCH

At Women’s College Hospital (WCH) we are proud to be advocates, allies and champions for equity, diversity and inclusion. We embrace the many differences and unique perspectives of our diverse communities. This is what makes our hospital culture so rich and our city such a wonderful place to live.

The Pride festival is an entire month of marches, parades, parties, cultural exhibits, art installations and dialogues. We are excited to celebrate alongside our friends and colleagues in the LGBTQ community throughout the month of June at Pride 2018.

Pride & Remembrance Run and the Dyke March

This year, there are two special events that teams from across WCH are participating in. On Saturday, June 23, 2018 you can show your pride at the Pride & Remembrance Run in the morning and the Dyke March in the afternoon. Click here to register to march with the WCH Pride Team.

This year, Women’s College Hospital (WCH) has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Pride & Remembrance Run, with funds directed to the Transition-Related Surgeries Compassionate Fund, a new resource for trans people facing financial challenges related to their transition. Although access to care for trans and gender diverse patients has been improving, not all transition-related surgeries are covered by OHIP and costs can be considerable.

As the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced last summer, WCH is the hub of surgical services for gender-transition surgeries in Ontario, providing expanded access for transition-related surgeries and becoming the second facility in Canada to provide bottom surgeries. Our hospital is home to an accessible, high-quality, comprehensive trans healthcare program unlike anything else in the country.

Also, on Saturday, June 23, WCH will show our Pride at the Dyke March as we have done since the march began nearly twenty years ago.

WCH marchers will be meeting at 1 p.m. at the corner of Church St. and Hayden St. before the march begins at 2 p.m. WCH march t-shirts will be handed out at this time by our WCH Pride Ambassadors. All genders are welcome to participate.

This year's route begins at Bloor St. East and Church St.. The march travels west on Bloor St., south on Yonge St., east on Carlton St. and ends at Allen Gardens. You can view the map here.

Pride Booth in the Atrium

Be sure to stop by the Pride booth located in the Atrium Wednesdays throughout the month of June from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Our Pride Ambassadors will be there to celebrate with you and help you register for the Pride & Remembrance Run and the Dyke March.

We look forward to seeing all of you at our Pride events and showing Toronto how Women’s College Hospital does it with pride!
