Pain Clinic Announcement

April 8, 2014

Effective Feb. 3, patients from the Sunnybrook Pain Clinic have had their care transferred to Women’s College Hospital. The move is part of an initiative to create a regional centre of excellence in pain management – the Toronto Pain Medicine Institute Network – at WCH that will offer patients across the city more integrated services and improve wait times for care and consults. The expanded program will also offer improved research and teaching opportunities in the field of chronic pain management.

As part of the new program, Women’s College Hospital is happy to welcome Dr. Gil Faclier, Dr. Arsenio Avila and Dr. Michael Gofeld to the program, under the leadership of Dr. Gerry O’Leary, chief of anesthesiology, and Dr. Anuj Bhatia, director of the pain program. Formerly with the Sunnybrook Pain Clinic and St. Michael’s Hospital, Drs. Faclier, Avila and Gofeld bring their longstanding expertise in chronic pain management to the hospital. The new physicians join Dr. Anwar Morgan and his longstanding chronic pain management service. Their appointment and this announcement bring Women’s College Hospital one step closer to building a regional, innovative model of care designed to provide a much-needed health-system solution.
