A Thousand Voices for Women’s Health: an award-winning campaign

Women’s College Hospital undertook an unprecedented research study when it asked 1,000 women from across Ontario – and who cover the spectrum of racial, cultural and religious communities, demographic and socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations and vulnerable life circumstances – what they want from a hospital, from care and from services.

To unveil the research findings Women’s College Hospital created a campaign targeting the community and media through a launch event and publication reporting the results of our pioneering study. It’s no surprise that the extraordinary campaign recently received three esteemed awards from the Canadian public relations industry.

Women’s College was awarded Gold for Community Relations Campaign of the Year by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) Toronto and the Gold Award of Excellence by CPRS National. The hospital also received the Award of Excellence from the prestigious Ovation Awards (sponsored by the International Association of Business Communicators Toronto) for the publication reporting the results of the study.

“Utilizing research which could help Women’s College Hospital better design its new facilities, services and gather significant headlines was brilliant,” explained the judges in the award evaluation for CPRS National. “This approach shows strategic thinking, an acceptance of budgetary realities as part of working for the public sector and a clear line of sight to measurable results. Very well done!”

The award-winning campaign emphasized the hospital’s steadfast commitment to working with and for diverse women from all communities.

“Women’s College Hospital works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of women are heard,” explains Marilyn Emery, president and CEO. “These awards are not only a great honour, but also an opportunity to expand awareness and support for Ontario’s first and only ambulatory care hospital, with a primary focus on women’s health.”
