Building the Hospital of the Future: An Important Milestone for Women’s College
Exciting news about Women’s College Hospital is hitting newsstands this week. Along with Infrastructure Ontario, we’re announcing the preferred proponent who has been selected to design, build, finance and maintain our new building. Check out the Globe and Mail on Thursday, June 3 for our advertisement, and join Marilyn Emery, President and CEO, at a Town Hall on June 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium to view never-before-seen visuals of our new facility.
The process of choosing our proponent has been long, involved and exciting. Three exceptional proposals were reviewed and considered by a legion of individuals and groups. Today, the selection was announced.
And the winner is: The Women’s College Partnership, composed of developer Bilfinger Berger, a leading player for major infrastructure projects for more than 125 years; Perkins Eastman Black, specializing in progressive and innovative design; IBI Architects, with a concentration in urban land, facilities, transportation and systems; the Walsh Group, specializing in effective marketing of land development projects; Bondfield Construction, with more than 30 years of construction experience; and facility managers Black & McDonald, an integrated, multi-trade prime contractor.
“Now we’re one step closer to putting a shovel in the ground this fall,” says David Hope, director, capital redevelopment. “This milestone is a further demonstration of the Ontario government’s commitment to Women’s College and the care we provide to women and their families.”
A group of dedicated staff members and physicians participated in a complex process with many meetings, many lengthy documents and reports and many hours spent evaluating ideas and providing input. They offered detailed comments, operational insights and constructive feedback that were invaluable through the bidder design process and in the evaluation of the final proposals.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in the extensive process that has led to this exciting announcement,” said Marilyn Emery, President and CEO. “We are extremely fortunate to have such a highly engaged group of physicians and staff involved in this process. Without you, we simply could not redevelop our beloved hospital.”
Now the real work begins: assisting the team to actually build our new facility, preparing for demolition and executing a communications strategy to inform our stakeholders about Women’s College Hospital’s exciting future.
By 2015 we will have a new state-of-the-art facility that will further enhance our ability to help women and their families prevent and manage the diseases and conditions that affect them throughout their lives.
