Construction on Women’s College Hospital’s redevelopment project began in August 2010. But the ongoing hard work and dedication to make this project a reality started long before. On Nov. 22 Women’s College Hospital and Women’s College Partnership (WCP) were rewarded for their efforts by the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP).
Dan Hill, chief financial officer, WCH, and Damian Joy, CEO of Bilfinger Berger Project Investments Inc., were recognized at the CCPPP National Awards for Innovation and Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships as the WCH redevelopment project was awarded the Silver Award for Project Financing.
According to Hill, “The innovative approach to project financing supports the unique requirements of our redevelopment and fits perfectly with our mandate to revolutionize women's health through every aspect of what we do, including our new building.”
The CCPPP’s National Awards recognize public institutions that have demonstrated outstanding innovation and excellence through a partnership with a public sector counterpart.
WCH’s redevelopment project has several key areas of achievement in project financing, most notably the use of an alternative financing and procurement process (AFP). This model uses private funding to rebuild Ontario infrastructure on time and on budget, while still allowing for public ownership and control.
Hill and Joy addressed the crowd at the awards gala and expressed their thanks to everyone who assisted in the project.
“WCH is proud of all the work that has been done,” adds Hill. “This award is about recognizing everyone’s effort throughout the redevelopment process.”
