Do you have unused gift cards from the holidays or birthdays lying around at home? Some that you’ve partially redeemed, others that you may never redeem and even more that you’ve simply forgotten about?
If so, now’s your chance to swap these gift cards into valuable donations to support the Association of Volunteers’ $1 million pledge to Women’s College Hospital.
Here’s how it works.
Simply drop off your gift card at the Ankh Gift Shop, located in the main lobby, or the Volunteer Office in the west basement between now until Feb. 29, 2012 and fill out a form with some required information. A volunteer will validate the gift card by sending it to our partners at www.cardswap.ca and Women’s College Hospital Foundation will send you a charitable tax receipt in the mail. If you don’t require a receipt or your card is worth under $10, you can simply place your cards in the pink donation box in the hospital lobby.
CardSwap allows individuals to convert unwanted gift cards into donations. Women’s College Hospital is one of just six charitable partners associated with CardSwap and receives up to 90 per cent of the value of the card. By enabling donation of your unused and unwanted gift cards, CardSwap allows you to make a contribution and receive a tax receipt for gifts of $10 or more.
While the best way is to drop off your cards at the gift shop, donors can also swap their gift cards and donate to Women’s College Hospital by registering their card information online at www.cardswap.ca. However, online registrations will only receive a tax receipt for a minimum donation of $25. Cards can also be mailed to the hospital at this address:

“This is a great and easy way to give back without having to donate money,” says Davilon Wallace, volunteer at Women’s College Hospital and organizer of CardSwap. “We’ve all got gift cards and this is the perfect way to make the most of them.”
