Stop the Violence: Women’s College Hospital Remembers the Victims and Honours the Survivors

Each year, Women’s College Hospital pauses to remember the victims of violence, in particular those women murdered at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989, and to honour the survivors at its annual ceremony in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women established in 1991 by the Canadian government.

Violence against women, particularly intimate partner violence, continues to be a major public health issue despite decades of public education, violence prevention programs, and an increasing criminal justice response.

Each year, Women’s College Hospital pauses to remember the victims of violence, in particular those women murdered at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989, and to honour the survivors at its annual ceremony in recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women established in 1991 by the Canadian government.

Distinguished members of the community including the Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario, will join Women’s College Hospital staff, physicians and volunteers at this year’s ceremony. Dr. Angelique Jenney, Director, Family Violence Services, Child Development Institute, a multi-service child and family agency in Toronto, will give the keynote address.
