New Building

Is there WiFi available for patients and visitors?

Yes. WiFi is available throughout the new building. When you enter the hospital, search using your smartphone or tablet for the wireless network WC_Guest and connect using the password ‘WomensCollege’.

Is there be a restaurant/coffee shop for patients and visitors in the new building?

All of the food vendors have now opened permanent locations at Women’s College Hospital in the main lobby. La Prep, Extreme Pita, Jugo Juice, Sushi Shop and Thai Express are all open and ready to serve delicious meals and beverages to WCH staff, physicians, volunteers, patients and visitors.

Extreme PitaExtreme Pita

Extreme Pita provides a healthy, guilt-free alternative to traditional fast food by offering a variety of pitas, salads, flatbaked pitas as well as breakfast options. Guests have their choice between classic and signature recipes, or they can create their own pita, where they choose from fresh vegetables, cheeses, meats and vegetarian options like falafel and hummus.

Our new facility is located right next door to our old building at 76 Grenville Street. If you have questions about an upcoming appointment, please contact your healthcare team directly or our Patient Relations department at 416-323-7702 / patientrelations@wchospital.ca.

Do you have a patient drop-off area at your new location?

When did the move to the new building happen?

The move next door into the new building started Thursday May 16, 2014 at 12 noon and our new facility opened to patients on Monday May 27, 2014.

Where is the bus stop for the shuttle bus?

The shuttle bus is for staff and physicians only. Due to the construction activities around WCH, we will be changing shuttle bus drop-off and pick-up locations.

Access through Grenville Street will be restricted and drivers will be dropping and picking up passengers from the west side of Surrey Place, North of Grenville.

All staff and physicians should cross the street to and from the shuttle bus via the pedestrian crossing at Bay Street.

How can I call a taxi from the new building?

A direct line to Co-op taxis is available in the main lobby of the new building. If you need assistance calling a taxi, please ask one of our helpful volunteers.

Is there a bank machine/ATM in your new building?

Yes, a bank machine/ATM is located on the ground level near the Grenville Street lobby.

Is the new building wheelchair accessible?

Yes our new building is fully accessible. All clinics have wheelchair accessible washrooms. Please read our Parking & Patient Drop-off webpage for more information.

What are the height restrictions for vehicles entering the parking garage?

Vehicle heights must not exceed 6’8? (2.1m).

What kind of bicycle storage facilities do you have at the new building?

There is a staff-only bicycle storage area within the underground parking garage. Patients and visitors can lock their bicycles to the rings located around the hospital on Grenville Street, Bay Street and Grosvenor Street. Please read our Parking & Patient Drop-off webpage for more information.

What are your hours of operation?

Both the Grenville and Grosvenor Street doors will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. For after hours access (7 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Monday to Friday, weekends and statutory holidays), please use the intercom at the Grosvenor Street entrance to contact security.

To arrange a sign language interpreter for your appointment, please contact the department that you will be visiting. They will book an interpreter for the appointment.

Where is the blood lab?

As of Monday, March 21st, 2016, the Lab/Specimen Collection Centre is known as the Lobby Lab and is located at 76 Grenville Street, ground floor atrium.

The lab is open to Women’s College Hospital patients only.

Do you treat men as well as women?

Most programs at the hospital treat men as well as women. Please refer to program descriptions on the Programs and Services page for admission requirements and restrictions.

I need information about birth control. Who do I contact?

The staff of the Bay Centre for Birth Control, a program of Women’s College Hospital, are experts on birth control. The phone number is 416-351-3700.

How do I make an appointment with a doctor at Women’s College Hospital?

Most of the programs at the hospital require a referral from a family doctor. The Programs and Services page from the hospital website lists the departments and programs. Click on the department or program name to find the admission criteria. If you do not have a family doctor, refer to Finding a Doctor page.

Hello. I was wondering if the services provided for young woman (17-25) are free services or those covered by insurance? Also, do I need to book an appointment as well as get a referral from my family doctor to see a doctor at your office?Thank you

The services offered by the Young Women’s Gynecology Clinic are covered by Ontario Health Insurance. You will need a referral from your family doctor to see someone in this Clinic.

I don’t have a family doctor. Can I make an appointment at Women’s College Hospital?

The family doctors at the Family Practice Health Centre are not taking new patients, except for pre-natal care. Due to a high volume of requests, the centre does not keep a waiting list. If you do not have a family doctor, check out Finding a Doctor page.

I need help with an unplanned pregnancy. Who do I contact?

The staff of the Bay Centre for Birth Control, a program of Women’s College Hospital, can provide information on, and access to, the unplanned pregnancy choices available to women.

I want to have my baby at Women’s College Hospital. How do I register?

Women’s College Hospital no longer offers delivery services. If you need obstetrical care, you can make an appointment at the Family Practice Health Centre by calling 416-323-6400 ext. 6060. The centre provides care before, during and after pregnancy – including delivery in the beautiful new birthing unit at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

I have environmental health sensitivities. Can I get help at Women’s College Hospital?

The Environmental Health Clinic at Women’s College Hospital does assessments and makes recommendations for ongoing treatment of environmental sensitivities, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia. Call them for more information at 416-351-3764 or toll-free at: 1-800-417-7092.

Can a family doctor refer me to your hospital for hysterosalpingogram test?

Yes. A completed and signed requisition form from your doctor is all that is required to book your appointment. You can also call our Department of Medical Imaging at 416-323-7515 for more information.

I am pregnant, but don’t have health insurance. Can I have my baby at your hospital?

Women’s College Hospital does not deliver babies. If you do not have health insurance, you can access a community health centre. They offer health services to people who don’t have health insurance. You must visit the centre in the area that you live in. This website from the Government of Ontario (http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/hco/options/community.aspx) will help you find the centre in your area. Another option is to try to get a midwife. Some will see women who don’t have health insurance. The Ontario Midwives website (http://www.ontariomidwives.ca/) has good information on it about midwife services and how to find one in your area. You can also try this page from the Settlement.org website (http://www.settlement.org/sys/faqs_detail.asp?faq_id=4001260). It has good information on services available to women without insurance who need prenatal and antenatal care.

Is pacemaker surgery done at WCH?

Women’s College Hospital does not perform pacemaker surgery. When you have a pacemaker inserted, you have to be monitored in the hospital for at least 24 hours. As WCH is an ambulatory hospital, the surgical procedures we perform are limited to those where the patient can go home within 24 hours.

Women’s College Hospital does not have arrangements with any of the local hospitals for patient discounts. There are several hotels in close proximity to the Hospital.
