Message from our President & CEO

Dear WCH Patient/Family Members:

Influenza is among the top 10 infectious diseases in Ontario and one that poses significant health risks to Canadians each year, especially the elderly, the young and people with underlying medical conditions. Rates of infection are highest among healthcare workers and research shows that vaccination reduces the spread of the flu. Here at WCH, our commitment to quality and safety is our top priority, so this flu season we will once again encourage all of our staff, physicians, students and volunteers to get vaccinated.

We would ask you to help us in the following ways:

  • If you are sick yourself, please do not visit the hospital. Patients are more vulnerable to influenza when they are already sick or injured.
  • Please wash your hands before entering and leaving the hospital. We can reduce the spread of disease greatly by good hand hygiene.
  • Ask your healthcare workers and visitors if they have washed their hands. You have every right to feel safe.
  • Talk to your doctor about getting your flu shot.

Thank you for working with us to keep you, your family and our healthcare professionals as safe as possible from influenza. For more information on where to get your flu shot and the benefits of vaccination, please visit The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Flu website.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Emery
President & CEO
