Athletic Therapy

Athletic therapy specializes in the care of musculoskeletal disorders (muscles, bones, ligaments, joints), especially as they relate to individuals pursuing optimal function in their daily activities. This care includes assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and education. Along with other members of the Sport CARE team, the certified athletic therapist helps provide the best possible environment for healing to occur enabling a speedy return to an active and healthy lifestyle. The certified athletic therapist uses a variety of therapeutic techniques, supportive taping and bracing, and rehabilitative and strengthening programs to ensure their clients have a safe return to their chosen activity.

Some conditions that an athletic therapist may help with are:

  • foot and ankle: plantar fasciitis, sprains, achilles tendon injuries
  • knee: patello femoral syndrome, patellar tendonopathy, ligament sprains, osteoarthritis
  • shoulder: rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder
  • lower back and pelvis: mechanical back pain, pelvic instability/malalignments
  • elbow: medial or lateral epicondylitis

The athletic therapist at Sport CARE will assess each patient and provide them with a personalized exercise program to be completed at their own convenience.  Appointments are available by referral and are 30 minutes in length. Follow-up visits are booked to review progress and initiate sport specific training and activity reintegration.

Referral:
A referral from a physician, with a clear diagnosis, is required.

Fee:  $20.00 per half hour session

Please note:  Athletic therapy is not covered under OHIP, but may be included in private health insurance plans. Please review your plan to determine requirements and or restrictions.
