Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the assessment and treatment of soft tissues and joints in the body to help in the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction. It can be used in a rehabilitative or preventative manner.

Massage therapy is proven to be effective in treating:

  • sports injuries
  • strains or sprains
  • muscle tension or spasm
  • headaches
  • pregnancy and labour
  • fractures and edema
  • inflammatory conditions (i.e. arthritis or bursitis)
  • repetitive strain injuries (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome)
  • stress and stress-related conditions
  • cancer
  • post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Parkinson's disease

Massage therapy can play an important role in maintaining your health by:

  • reducing or eliminating pain
  • improving immune system function
  • improving circulation
  • decreasing muscle tension
  • improving joint mobility
  • improving body awareness and posture

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your first appointment to complete a health history form. The registered massage therapist will review your information during the initial assessment and design a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs. This plan will require you to do some "homework" in the form of exercises, hydrotherapy (application of heat or cold) and possibly some postural awareness exercises.

Christine Yungblut has practiced at the Sport CARE clinic as a registered massage therapist since 1999. She uses a diverse range of techniques to treat clients.

Referral:
A referral is not required but may be requested by your extended health care plan.

Fee:
Massage therapy is not covered under OHIP but is often partially covered by extended health-care plans. Please check with your plan provider for specifics.
