What is CARES?

CARES is a health promotion and research project working to bring awareness about and access to cervical and breast cancer screening for under-screened women and Trans men. CARES works in the community with under/never-screened people to realize and address the barriers to cancer screening particular groups often face.

Who should register for CARES?

CARES is a two-hour session for people who have never been checked or who are behind in breast or cervical cancer checks. See details below to determine if you are behind in your screenings. CARES recognizes that there are barriers to many people getting mammograms and pap tests. If you are behind in screening for any reason, it's time for CARES.

What is a mammogram?

A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast that checks for abnormalities in breast or chest tissue. This cancer check is recommended every 2 years starting at age 50 for people who have no family history of breast/chest cancer.

What is a pap test?

A pap test checks for abnormal cells at the cervix, the entrance to the uterus. This cancer check is recommended every 3 years for ages 21-70 following a normal Pap test result. If you are sexually active or have ever been sexually active and you have a cervix, you need a pap test!

CARES offers information and help arranging cancer checks. No OHIP required.
