The department of anesthesia at Women's College Hospital, fully affiliated with the department of anesthesia at the University of Toronto, has 11 anesthesiologists, as well as fellows, residents and interns who are training to become specialists in anesthesia. We provide general, local and regional anesthesia to surgical patients, as well as consultation services for pain management and pre-operative assessment. Surgeons may request an anesthesia consultation for a patient when an appointment is made for preoperative assessment in the preadmission clinic.
The mandate of the surgical program at Women's College Hospital is to provide ambulatory surgery care (health services where patients may be discharged in less than 24 hours). Our services, education and research are aligned with this focus.

Our anesthesiologists are also specialists in obstetrical anesthesia care and provide these services to women for labour and delivery, staffing the division of obstetrical anesthesia at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
