The Ricky Kanee Schachter Dermatology Centre

The Ricky Kanee Schachter Dermatology Centre offers a General Dermatology Clinic as well as seven specialty clinics including the Melanoma and Pigmented Lesion Clinic, Transplant Clinic, Immunobullous Clinic, the Vulvar Clinic, Transitional Clinic and Hair Loss Clinic.

General Dermatology Clinic

The General Dermatology Clinic offers a wide variety of services and treatments. We assess and manage a spectrum of skin conditions including acne, psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, benign lesions, skin cancer, as well as other less common skin diseases. A referral from a physician is required.  Please note that some elective services are not covered by OHIP and may be subject to a fee.

Melanoma and Pigmented Lesion Clinic

This is an interdisciplinary clinic that manages patients with melanoma or those who have a high risk for developing melanoma.  This includes patients with a strong family history of melanoma and those with more than 50 irregular moles.  The team includes dermatologists, one of whom specializes in dermatologic surgery, and registered nurses.

Patients must be referred to the clinic by a dermatologist, oncologist or surgeon. This clinic runs on Thursdays between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Patient education with our registered nurses is available upon request.

Transplant Clinic

Patients with solid organ transplants (including heart, kidney and lung) have special health problems because of the drugs they use to suppress the immune system. Skin cancer, other malignancies, and infections are more common in these patients. The transplant clinic offers expertise and extra time for diagnosis and management, as well as rapid referral, when necessary, to our in-house skin cancer surgeons. Referral from a physician is required.

Immunobullous Clinic

For patients with autoimmune blistering diseases such as pemphigus vulgaris. Referral from a physician required. Patient education with our registered nurses and pharmacist is available upon request.

Psoriasis Clinic

For patients with moderate to severe psoriasis requiring systemic treatment.  If necessary, patients receive a timely assessment by the Psoriatic Arthritis Clinic, led by a group of rheumatologists at Women’s College Hospital. Referral from a physician is required.

Vulvar Clinic

For women with vulvar skin problems and vulvar pain conditions. Referral from a physician is required.

Transitional Clinic

For patients with dermatologic problems who are transitioning from paediatric care to adult dermatology.  Also for adolescents and young adults who have skin diseases and want to discuss other issues related to their skin disorders.  Referral from a physician is required.

Hair Loss Clinic

Tertiary cente for the diagnosis, medical treatment and research of hair loss. Written referral is required from a dermatologist, endocrinologist and gynecologist or by special arrangement with Dr. Charlene Linzon.
