Queer Women’s Health Initiative

The Queer Women’s Health Initiative (QWHI) is a collaboration between Planned Parenthood Toronto, Rainbow Health Ontario, Sherbourne Health Centre and Women's College Hospital.

Background

The QWHI grew out of the experiences of a number of health-service organizations that worked together to develop the Check It Out: Queer Women Need Paps Too! campaign, a health promotion project which was launched in Toronto in November 2009. This campaign highlighted not only the gaps in health-care resources and services that meet the needs of lesbian, bisexual and queer women, but also the value of service organizations working together to share their knowledge, experiences and resources.

Mandate

The QWHI’s mandate is to improve the health of lesbian, bisexual, queer and other women who have sex with women. The QWHI will carry out projects that fill gaps or meet specific needs for queer women’s health and well-being.
