More than one-quarter of your body’s 206 bones are in your feet: 26 in each foot! That’s in addition to each foot’s 33 joints, which work with a complex array of muscles and tendons every time you take a step.

Your feet don’t just take you from place to place. In addition to making you mobile, your feet help you balance, support your body, and act as your body’s shock absorbers. Factors ranging from posture to high heels to diabetes can have a big impact on the health of your feet.
The Foot Care Centre is a specialty orthotics and foot assessment clinic. Our staff of foot care specialists includes pedorthists, occupational therapists and chiropodists. We are dedicated to providing excellent service, quality products and expertise in the treatment of biomechanical foot problems. The centre has been operating at Women's College Hospital since 1985.

Information on the cost of our services
OHIP does not cover any of our services however there is no assessment fee for Ontario residents. Clinic staff will inform the patient of the cost of treatment or orthotic devices. In some cases extended health insurance or third party payers will cover the cost of orthotics. Patients should check with their insurance company regarding coverage and requirements for reimbursement of custom-made orthotics.
Referral/Clinical appointments
A physician’s referral or prescription for orthotics is preferred at the time of booking an appointment. Extended health insurance plans and third party payers require a prescription before proceeding with custom-made orthotics.

Health Professional Education
The Foot Care Centre is a practicum site for clinical placement for various health-care disciplines through our affiliation with the University of Toronto.
