Women-Focused Diabetes Programs

Tridec offers the following programs for women:

Pregnancy Program

The diabetes and pregnancy team at Tridec provides pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum counselling for women with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. Tridec also provides weekly assessment and education sessions for individuals newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Program (PCOS)

This is a one day education and lifestyle management class for women living with polycystic ovary syndrome. Topics covered in this interactive class include ‘what is PCOS’, healthy eating, physical activity, cosmetic issues, and the prevention of potential complications of PCOS including Type 2 diabetes. Please note that this program is suitable for women who do not have Type 2 diabetes.

Midlife and Diabetes Program

This is a six week group educational program that teaches women who are between 45 to 59 years of age how to manage their diabetes and take charge of their health. Topics covered include:

  • ‘Diabetes in a nutshell’
  • lifestyle modification such as physical activity and healthy eating
  • current treatment options for Type 2 diabetes
  • sexuality, stress reduction and diabetes
  • prevention and management of potential complications of diabetes
  • how menopause can affect diabetes
  • goal setting to improve diabetes self-management


The group is open to women aged 45 to 59 years who have Type 2 diabetes and at least ONE of the following:

  • Having diabetes for 15 years or longer OR
  • High blood pressure,  neuropathy (nerve damage), protein in urine, retinopathy (eye damage), high cholesterol OR
  • Being diagnosed with another chronic disease (for example, arthritis)

Fees
Programs are covered by OHIP.
