The Women Recovering from Abuse Program - commonly known as WRAP - is an eight-week half-day group therapy and individual counseling program for women who have experienced childhood abuse, who suffer from mental health problems and who have sought traditional forms of psychiatric treatment in the past. WRAP is part of the Trauma Therapy Program.
Before entering the program, each woman meets with members of the team for an assessment and to decide with the team whether WRAP will be beneficial. WRAP is best suited to women who can benefit from a time-limited program and who are experiencing any of the following:
- anxiety
- suicidal thoughts
- numbing
- problems with self-esteem
- self-harm
- difficulties with relationships
- flashbacks
- feelings of guilt and shame
- depression
- dissociation
- feelings of isolation or alienation
The WRAP team includes psychiatrists, mental health therapists, art therapists, occupational therapists, music therapists, social workers and nurses.
In addition to the groups that make up the intensive component of WRAP, we offer a “Building Resources Group” therapy to assess readiness and to prepare women for the intensive phase of WRAP.
WRAP provides education to health-care professionals and community agencies. Research is conducted to explore the impact of abuse and trauma on women and to determine effective treatment. Participants may be invited to be part of a research study.
Referral
WRAP is available to women over the age of 18. We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from health-care professionals. Prior therapy related to trauma or abuse issues is recommended.
Fees
WRAP is covered by OHIP.
