Obstetrics and Gynecology Women’s Equity Clinic
The Women’s Equity Clinic within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women’s College Hospital started in 2016. This clinic is part of the University of Toronto Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Global Women’s Health and Equity Fellowship. Patients will be seen by the fellow (a fully trained Obstetrician/Gynecologist) under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Spitzer, FRCSC in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fellowship Director.
This clinic will accept referrals for Obstetrics and Gynecology concerns for women from the following vulnerable and/or marginalized communities:
- Immigrants and refugees
- Indigenous women
- LGBTQ women
- Homeless and/or street-connected women
- Under housed and sheltered women
- Women with addiction and substance use challenges
- Women living in poverty
The clinic will provide routine Obstetrics and Gynecology care, including investigations and both surgical and non-surgical management. Patients will be cared for by clinicians with a special interest and training in both the clinical as well as social/ political/ economic/ cultural concerns of these communities.
Translator services will be readily available. Women’s College Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto and other students and trainees may be involved in your patients care. The Women’s Equity Clinic will run every other Friday morning (9:00am-12:00pm) in the Gynecology clinic at Women’s College Hospital.
Referrals must be made by hospital-based physicians, family practitioners or specialists.
