Although most cyber-attacks start with a phishing email, recently hackers have shifted their approach to attacks via mobile phone text messages. Smishing (SMS based phishing), is more effective for attackers as they don’t have to worry about email filters blocking their messages so they can reach their victims more easily. These attacks attempt to lure victims into visiting malicious websites, approving access to applications and services, giving away financial information or downloading ransomware.
