Title & Department: Nurse Practitioner, Crossroads Clinic

How do you feel your feedback can contribute to the betterment of WCH?

At Crossroads we look at how our feedback can support implementation for the individual (patient), for the hospital and the region. We’re really into working as a team internally and exploring our network beyond the hospital walls.

What has your department done to implement changes based on last year’s engagement survey responses?

Our discharge process has become much more streamlined, which allows us intake more patients and support greater access to care for newcomers in our region. We’ve also hired a Peer Navigator and Clinic Aid, both of whom have been wonderful additions to our team! Finally, we’ve added performance appraisals that have provided staff feedback about strengths and areas for personal growth.

Why do you think it’s important for people at WCH to complete this year’s Employee Engagement and Demographic Survey?

It provides an opportunity to revisit personal and team goals set in years past and evaluate progress. It also provides a great opportunity to reflect as a team, come together, share values, and look ahead. This way teams can strategize ways that can continue to enriching our work and our overall model of care.

What do you think has most impacted the culture at Women’s over the last 18 months?

Getting our footing after COVID 19, celebrating our success and acknowledging past and ongoing injustices for Black & Indigenous populations and people of colour have been some monumental focuses of Women’s over the last 18 months. This can be seen as a natural progression from being grounded in remembering and being proud of our work and values held in women’s reproductive rights with the early establishment of WCH and vision of Emily Stowe.
