Name: Anderson Bemian

Pronouns: He/Him

Title & Department: Registered Practical Nurse Perioperative Services ( Operating Room)

On the WCH team for: 7 years

What does your typical workday look like?

My typical day at work is like playing a soccer match with my teammates, we have fun working together to achieve a common good (patient care satisfaction). We make sure we are efficient throughout the day in all aspects of our performance, so we can look around at the end of our shift and say “yes, we did it! Well done guys, see you tomorrow for another exciting day in the OR.”

What excites you the most about working at WCH?

The fact that WCH is close to home (7 KM away), I cycle to work every day throughout the year. I work Monday to Friday from 0730 to 1530, no evenings and no after-hours calls. I always tell anybody who asks that this is my perfect retirement plan. This place gives me time to focus on my family life and my manager is by far the best I’ve ever had. So, I will be here as long as my health and abilities permit.

How does your work contribute to creating a positive patient experience?

We consider our patients like our family members, neighbours, friends and people from our community, trusting us for the care they need. We strive to bring our compassion and expertise to our work as we walk our patients through their journey as smoothly as possible. We always encourage them to ask any questions, requests, suggestions they might have before and after their surgery (especially during the surgical briefing, some patients have the chance to listen to their favorite song before induction).

Tell us one to three things that your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you!

  1. I love gardening
  2. I used to play guitar
  3. I listened to country music most of my time
