1. What does your typical workday look like?
My weeks are split into clinical and research time with a focus on assessing and treating chronic pain and mental health conditions. On a clinical day, I do assessments or evidence-based therapy (individual or group based) for adults with chronic pain and co-occurring mental health conditions. On a research day, I spend my time investigating the mechanisms of chronic pain and ways to help patients manage chronic pain. I do this through collaborating with local, national, and international colleagues using a variety of research methodologies.
2. What excites you the most about working at WCH?
I’m most excited about working with the dynamic and inter-professional TAPMI team and my WCH colleagues! Every person I have met so far is incredibly talented, knowledgeable, and professional, all of whom inspire me in both my clinical and research jobs.
3. How does your work contribute to creating a positive patient experience?
Every aspect of my job aims to better the patient experience, whether it be through patient-partnered research or collaborating with colleagues to build new programs targeting concerns that patients bring to our attention. On a day-to-day basis in my clinical work, I tailor interventions to particular patient needs which promote positive outcomes. For example, I write mindfulness and hypnosis recordings for patients to help them cope with chronic pain.
4. Tell us one thing that your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you!
I know my way around a sauna due to my Finnish heritage!
