National Volunteer Week is April 27 – May 3. To celebrate, we’re highlighting a few of our incredible volunteers.

Name: Irene Cao
Pronouns: She/Her
Title & Department: TAPMI Clinic Administration Help
On the WCH team for: 1 year
1. What does your typical day look like volunteering at WCH?
There have been some changes within the past year as TAPMI went digital; however, generally my volunteering day consists of making phone calls to people to book them in for orientations, or calling booked patients to remind them of their sessions.
2. What excites you the most about volunteering at WCH?
I would say that the most exciting part of my duties is when I manage to connect with the patient and help book them in for their session, but I do have to add that being able to be a part of such a welcoming hospital also contributes a great deal to my excitement.
3. How does your volunteering contribute to making a positive patient experience?
My previous experience in customer service makes me able to better connect with the patients and enables them to feel more at ease during the phone calls. My experience within the department has also enabled me to become more adept at answering questions that patients may have, which patients have reacted positively to.
4. Tell us one to three things that we would be surprised to learn about you.
I have taken to using the word “wonderful” much more since beginning my service at TAPMI
A big thanks to Irene and all our volunteers for the wave of impact they make at WCH.
