Title & Department: Health Equity Specialist, Office of Equity

On the WCH team for: 7 months

1. What does your typical day look like?

My days are always dynamic — I spend time exploring equity trends and insights, meeting with clinical teams, and working with community partners to ensure our programs and policies reflect the needs of diverse populations. I also collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to embed equity into decision-making, whether through policy development, staff support, or patient and community engagement initiatives.

2. What excites you the most about working at WCH?

I’m excited by WCH’s commitment to equity, innovation, and patient-centered care. Being part of an organization that prioritizes listening to patients, amplifying underrepresented voices, and leading systemic change makes the work meaningful every day.

3. How does your work contribute to making a positive patient experience?

My work helps identify and remove barriers to care. By bringing forward patient voices, analyzing equity data, and co-developing inclusive policies, I ensure that our services are more accessible, culturally responsive, and reflective of the diverse communities we serve. This means patients feel heard, respected, and better supported in their healthcare journey.

4. Tell us one to three things that your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you.

I once co-led the development of a city-wide anti-hate policy initiative in Hamilton, where I helped create 20 recommendations that were adopted into municipal strategies. It was an eye-opening experience that deepened my commitment to equity and advocacy beyond healthcare.
