Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day 2017

February 20, 2017

By Sarah Warr

International Women’s DayWomen’s College Hospital will once again celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on Wednesday, March 8. This international event celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and also marks a call to action to accelerate gender parity.

Women’s College Hospital is proud to celebrate IWD. As a world leader in women’s health and a champion of health equity, WCH advocates for the health of all women from diverse cultures and backgrounds and ensures their needs are reflected in the care they receive.

Join us on March 8 in the Peter Gilgan Atrium

Please joins us for refreshments from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and to write your own pledge to help achieve gender parity. Throughout the day, attendees will be offered a pledge card to share their support and commitment towards gender parity and add it to our wall of pledges on display. Best Health magazine will also have a display table where they will be giving away their March issue of the magazine, featuring articles with WCH experts.

The theme for this year’s IWD is #BeBoldForChange. The amazing successes and achievements of women give us much to celebrate today, however progress towards gender parity has slowed in many places around the world. In 2014, the World Economic Forum predicted that it would take until 2095 to achieve global gender parity. Now it is estimated that a slowdown in the already low pace of progress means the gender gap wouldn’t close entirely until 2186.

Each one of us can take bold action to help accelerate gender parity. As we celebrate IWD on March 8, we invite you to make your own pledge to take groundbreaking action at our event.
