Congratulations to Dr. Paula Rochon, vice-president of research at Women’s College Hospital, for being named the inaugural RTO/ERO Chair in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto.

In this role, which was made possible through a fundraising campaign led by the Retired Teachers of Ontario, Dr. Rochon will continue her work in advancing care for Canada’s aging population.

Throughout her distinguished research career, Dr. Rochon has explored the complex challenges of managing the health of vulnerable older adults with multiple complex and chronic conditions. Her work examines the benefits and risks of drug therapies commonly prescribed to older adults; furthermore, she develops practical and innovative strategies to care for this group.

In the years ahead, women will continue to make-up the majority of Canada’s older population. As a hospital dedicated to the health and well-being of women, Dr. Rochon’s research will have a direct impact on how we, at WCH, care for this special group. Her work will not only have implications for the patients we serve at WCH, but also undoubtedly impact our health system as a whole, making her a very worthy recipient of this new research chair.
