Spotlight on Darleen Bogart

Darleen BogartSeptember 2014 marked Darleen Bogart’s 50th anniversary with the Association of Volunteers at Women’s College Hospital (WCH). Bogart started out with pushing the gift cart to patient floors and has since held many positions and had many responsibilities, including: gift shop chair, archivist (the association’s first) and display coordinator. She has also held every position on the association’s executive team. Bogart is a past member of the hospital’s board of directors, and currently serves on the association’s executive board as past co-president.

Outside of WCH, Bogart is very involved with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) with a special interest in the field of braille literacy. Her specialized work with the group has gained her international recognition; she received the Arthur Napier Magill Distinguished Service Award from CNIB. Bogart is currently the national braille convener for CNIB.

For her contributions as volunteer, Bogart has received many awards including the Volunteer of the Year award from Health and Welfare Canada, and the Volunteer Service Award from Metropolitan Toronto Volunteer Service. She is an honorary life member of the Hospital Auxillaries Association of Ontario.

We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed volunteer in our midst. Congratulations, Darleen!!
