WCRI experts host panel discussion on teen sexual assault, release video

August 10, 2015

Timed to coincide with Sexual Assault Awareness Month in May, experts from Women’s College Hospital hosted a CIHR Café Scientifique titled Speaking out about teen sexual assault at a local Toronto high school.

A video of the event is now available on YouTube as a resource for youth.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

The event – which was led by Janice Du Mont, EdD, scientist at Women’s College Research Institute, and Sheila Macdonald, MN, provincial coordinator of the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centres (SA/DVTCs) – brought together researchers, as well as health and community experts specializing in sexual assault.

The event featured a panel discussion that was moderated by Anoodth Naushan, community safety coordinator at METRAC. Todd Minerson, executive director of the White Ribbon Campaign, and Andrea Villanueva, co-founder of Project Slut, joined Du Mont and Macdonald as panelists. Following the panel discussion, high school students also had an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts in a Q&A session.
