November  17, 2014

Canada’s top 40 For the third year in a row, Women’s College Hospital (WCH) ranks as one of Canada’s top 40 research hospitals, according to a new report published by Research Infosource Inc.

Every year, Research Infosource Inc., a Canadian source for research and development intelligence, publishes Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals List. The group examines research hospitals across Canada and ranks them on their success in attracting support for health research.

Overall, WCH ranked 31st in Canada by attracting nearly $11.1 million in research funding in 2013 (see table below for Women’s College Hospital’s progress since 2012). The hospital outperformed many larger institutions with respect to income intensity (percentage of total hospital income derived from research funding) and research intensity (amount of research funding attracted per researcher), ranking 15th and 12th nationally, respectively.

“Our improved ranking and impressive standing in terms of research and income intensity demonstrates our growing research capacity,” says Dr. Paula Rochon, vice-president, research at WCH. “Our success in attracting funding enables us to do high-impact, rigorous research that is advancing the health of women and delivering innovative health system solutions at Women’s College Hospital and beyond.”
