FamilyWay obstetrical group takes a family-centred approach to pregnancy and birth

June 17, 2013

FamilyWaySpecial, dedicated care during pregnancy and birth is integral to minimizing stress and ensuring a healthy outcome for mother and baby. However, fitting clinic appointments into a busy work schedule can be a challenge for mothers-to-be.

FamilyWay is an obstetrical group with clinic locations at Women’s College Hospital (WCH) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Family physicians specializing in pregnancy and birth help make the transition safe and healthy for mothers and their newborns. Established in 2011, the clinic is open to patients in the evening to accommodate common work schedules.

“The satisfaction rates for our clinic are extremely high,” said Dr. Batya Grundland, family physician at WCH and division head of family practice obstetrics at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. “Ninety per cent of respondents to a recent patient satisfaction survey said that they would come back to FamilyWay and 100 per cent said they would recommend the clinic to family and friends.”

Delivering approximately 600 babies per year, the dedicated staff take a family-centred approach with patients as they go through pregnancy and ensure a healthy mother and baby after birth.

With a one-on-one nursing policy, each patient is assigned a dedicated nurse for the labour and birth, which takes place at Sunnybrook. Patients are also in contact with a variety of doctors throughout the process. “Meet the Doctors” nights occur on the last Monday of every other month to introduce patients to the labour and delivery space and staff.

The WCH FamilyWay physicians are located at the Family Practice Health Centre on the third and fourth floors at 77 Grenville St.
