A gingerbread village and some holiday cheer

January 14, 2014

The room was filled with laughter and holiday cheer as Women’s College Hospital (WCH) staff, physicians and volunteers came together in December to celebrate the first holiday party in the new building and to reminisce about the past year.

More than 25 of the hospital’s departmental teams signed up for the gingerbread house decorating contest, and all entries were on display during the festive celebration. With the splendid work of the environmental services team, the boardroom was transformed into a cheerful miniature gingerbread village.

On behalf of the board of directors and the senior team, Jane Mosley, chief nursing executive and health disciplines, professional affairs, thanked staff, physicians and volunteers for their hard work and dedication to WCH and wished everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

“It goes without saying that our exceptional achievements begin with you – our exceptional staff, devoted volunteers and outstanding physicians who provide quality care for our patients and their families each day,” said Mosley. “Today, we celebrate you and all you do to make WCH the very special place it is.”

Visitors enjoyed delicious food and holiday tunes while a slideshow featuring pictures of the event-filled year was on display to showcase all the changes that 2013 brought. Everyone had a chance to browse the creative creations of each department and vote for their favourite gingerbread house. The winners of the gingerbread house decorating contest, as voted by their colleagues, were the ‘WCH Rockstars’ from the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Care Centre.

Leading up to the event, staff, physicians and volunteers participated in the holiday food drive and dropped off food donations in support of Second Harvest.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the food drive and the gingerbread contest. Happy new year to all!
