WCH says goodbye and shares memories

May 27, 2013

Thursday, May 16th was the perfect day to gather out front of WCH and say goodbye to the building we have called home for 78 years. As staff, physicians and volunteers helped pack up the hospital in weeks leading up to this day, it was bittersweet walking out of the the old facility a final time.

As the doors to our previous home closed at noon, everyone gathered to write their farewell messages on Post-it notes and stuck them to the building’s front doors – creating a Women’s Wall of Memories. Some notes read “new look, same WCH,” “goodbye WCH... I was born here!” and “walls are temporary, values are forever.”

In addition to the farewell messages, staff, physicians and volunteers ate pizza and enjoyed music from returning entertainer to WCH, Njacko Backo. The lively music added to the happy, emotional atmosphere.. Bubbles filled the air as people shared memories of their time at WCH’s previous facility.  Even Cubey joined in on the excitement!

The afternoon was a time of celebration and reflection that brought everyone together to say goodbye to our former home.
