A New Year’s message from Jennifer Bernard
Looking ahead to a year of partnership and impact
If Emily Stowe could have looked 135 years into the future of Women’s College Hospital (WCH), I believe she would have been astounded to see that today, our mission to bring equity and innovation to healthcare is more necessary than ever. From our roots as the first place in Canada for women to practice medicine, to pioneering cancer detection to find women’s cancers before they spread, to creating clinics that will serve patients virtually, we’ve never shied away from the extraordinary and unconventional.
2018 was no exception.
I hope that like me, you are proud of all that we have accomplished together. Last year we became the first hospital in Ontario to perform total joint replacement surgeries as outpatient procedures. We’re breaking down barriers for patients who urgently need to access addiction help with our Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic and, in partnership with the Canadian cancer Society, WCH’s Peter Gilgan Centre for Women’s Cancers is working to integrate research, best practices, clinical programs and virtual innovations in order to serve as a central hub for women facing a cancer diagnosis. These are just a few of the many examples of how WCH is driving change and closing gaps in access to healthcare.
As the new president and CEO of Women’s College Hospital Foundation, I am so inspired by the courage of staff and leadership who continue to clear the path that is helping to fulfill our mission of healthcare revolutionized. As we look to an incredible year ahead, I am energized by the brilliant minds and dedicated practitioners who are working on the life-changing initiatives of our hospital. Through the generosity of our donors, the Foundation has the incredible privilege of supporting the bold vision and strategic direction of Women’s College Hospital, allowing you to continue to do what you best – the extraordinary, unconventional, and life-changing.
With my deepest thanks,
Jennifer Bernard, CFRE
