Presentation by Dr. Rochon shares importance of sex and gender research
On Wednesday, January 16, Women’s College Hospital Foundation (WCHF) hosted the North Toronto Business and Professional Women’s Club for an engaging and informative presentation by Dr. Paula Rochon that explored how the hospital is closing the health gap by breaking barriers of age and gender.
Long-time supporters of Women’s College Hospital (WCH), The North Toronto Business Women’s Club is a network of business and professional women who aim to improve the political, economic, social and employment conditions of women in Canada through advocacy and active engagement in their community. Dr. Rochon’s focus on gender-based research has long inspired the club’s interest in WCH.
The engaged audience of women and men were excited to hear Dr. Rochon share some of the important work being done by the Women’s College Research Institute, including how the underrepresentation of women in research leads to critical gaps in healthcare, and how researchers at WCH are closing those gaps. Dr. Rochon also shared how her personal experiences as a woman in medicine has shaped her career trajectory and inspired her to pursue research through a sex and gender lens. The presentations sparked a lively discussion amongst the group about how we can all work to advocate for ourselves and our loved ones to ensure everyone receives access to timely and appropriate care.
WCHF is grateful for the North Toronto Business and Professional Women’s Club’s continued support of WCH, and for their tireless commitment to advocating for women across the country.
