Have an upcoming virtual office party? Check out these celebration ideas to help share moments of merriment with your colleagues this holiday season. Virtual parties are a great opportunity for staff to "get together" and relax while acknowledging the hard work and achievements of team members. 2020 has been quite the year and it's about time we all took a moment to celebrate, have some fun and reflect on all the accomplishments of this past year.

Virtual celebration

  1. Cookie Decorating Challenge: Have everyone prepare the same cookie recipe and share photos of the results.  Extra points for creativity and first-time bakers!
  2. Highlight Board: On an office whiteboard or flip chart, everyone writes their favorite work-related highlight of the year. Could also compile into a PowerPoint presentation to share during a virtual meeting.
  3. Toast to 2021: Provide everyone with sparkling water or cider for the next virtual team meeting and have everyone give a toast and share their wish for 2021.
  4. Virtual Game Party: Many classic games have gone online this year. Perhaps you test your wit and detective skills with an online game of Clue or a virtual escape room. There are lots of free or low-cost options to choose from online.
  5. Team Trivia: Pick some themes and assign a quiz master and prepare for a virtual game of trivia.
  6. Guess the Photo: Have everyone on the team bring in a baby photo of themselves and post on a wall. Everyone then needs to guess “who is who” with a prize for whoever gets the most right.
  7. Virtual Secret Santa: Just like a regular secret Santa but gifts are unwrapped during a virtual celebration.
  8. Crafting Challenge: Have everyone make an ornament based on items they can find in their own home. Everyone brings in their results and the team votes for the most creative.
  9. Recipe Swap: Have everyone bake their favorite holiday treat. Share the results during a virtual team meeting and swap recipes so people can make their own.

  15.  Festive Teams Backgrounds: See who can put together the most festive background in your virtual team meeting – whether using real decorations or creating the perfect digital background. You can also create a background for your entire team to use!
  16.  Lightning Scavenger Hunt: Create a list of items and challenge your coworkers to a virtual scavenger hunt. Whoever can complete the list first wins! It can also be a great way to get to know each other better. Some ideas to get you started on your list – find your favourite mug, your ugliest holiday sweater, the thing you’ve had the longest, something purple…
  17.  Guess That Holiday Movie: A great game for all the WCH movie buffs! Before the game, make a YouTube playlist with clips from different holiday classics. Then gather your team online and share your screen to play the movie scenes – the first person guesses the right film from each scene wins the round. Play shorter clips to make the game harder as you progress!
