On March 6, Women's College Hospital (WCH) staff, clinicians, researchers and volunteers came together to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). Every year, IWD recognizes the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and serves as a time to promote gender equity. This year's event focused on different female milestones and the progress made to provide women with equal access to healthcare both locally and globally.
To celebrate, WCH held an IWD atrium activation where staff contributed to an interactive timeline celebrating their vision for a gender balanced future alongside milestones in women’s history. Participants enjoyed coffee and treats, and engaged with International Women's Day themed trivia, putting their knowledge of women’s history to the test. We are also proud to share that more than 250 period products were donated to help end period poverty and provide the city’s most vulnerable women with access to tampons and pads.
Following the morning’s events, WCH hosted an insightful speaker event Global Minds, Global Impact from this year’s Women for Women’s. Attendees heard from Dr. Danielle Martin, Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Executive, Dr. Paula Rochon, Vice President, Research, and Dr. Praseedha Janakiram, Family Physician, Crossroads Refugee Clinic, on the global impact of the work being done at WCH and the leaders who are driving transformational change for women everywhere.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's International Women's Day!
