Thank you to all those who joined us at this year’s volunteer holiday appreciation event, Walking in a Women’s Wonderland! This year, volunteers celebrated through interactive exhibits and a presentation by WCH archivist, Heather Gardiner. The discussion included a slideshow of the “Seven Wonders of Women’s”, where volunteers reflected on some of the many milestones and accomplishments of WCH through history, including:
1. WCH’s name pays tribute to our past
2. WCH was Canada’s first women’s general hospital
3. WCH was originally a hospital run by women, for women
4. WCH was a trailblazer in women’s health in Canada
5. WCH was an early leader in women’s health research in Canada
6. WCH has always been a teaching institution
7. Volunteers have been contributing to the success of WCH since 1915
The event concluded with a luncheon and speeches from our hospital CEO Heather McPherson, Donna Walwyn, Chair of our Board of Directors and Sandra Sualim, our new Foundation CEO. The Association of volunteers also presented a cheque in the amount of $188,000 to purchase three pieces of necessary equipment for WCH; a Vyntus Box for the Pulmonary Function Lab, a Co2 Conditioning Insufflator for the Operating Room and a Nustep Cross Trainer for the Cardiac Rehab program.
