Women’s College Hospital Launches LearnWCH: A New Era of Learning

February 24, 2025

Women’s College Hospital (WCH) is excited to announce the launch of LearnWCH, a new Learning Management System (LMS) which will serve as the gateway to employee, patient, and public learning and knowledge translation at WCH.

Powered by Civica Learning, LearnWCH replaces the previous RBC eLearning Centre, offering a modern, user-friendly interface that improves both the learner experience and administrative efficiency, ensuring WCH remains at the forefront of education and training and adhering to our vision of excellence in patient-centred care.

“The goal of the Learning Institute at WCH is to drive new and innovative approaches to education and scholarship,” says Amy Gleiser, Director of the Learning Institute. “By leveraging LearnWCH, WCH can further its commitment to generating sustainable health system solutions while fostering a culture of continuous learning.”

A Seamless Learning Experience

Neha Patel, LMS Administrator and project lead, shares enthusiasm for the transition. “LearnWCH is a game-changer for all users inside and outside the hospital walls,” she says.

One of the most notable enhancements for staff is the introduction of single sign-on (SSO), eliminating the need for separate usernames and passwords. Staff can now access their training with the same credentials they use for other hospital systems, removing a common barrier to engagement. They will also be able to directly access their personal dashboard via WCH’s intranet, The Pulse. Physicians will be transitioned over to LearnWCH in April.

“The streamlined dashboard is another key feature,” adds Neha. “This allows learners to easily track their progress and see which courses are complete or pending. This enhanced visibility ensures staff can stay on top of required training with minimal effort.”

Data-Driven Insights and Enhanced Reporting

Administrators can now gain immediate insights into learner progress. This shift not only saves time but also improves the accuracy of training records.

With real-time reporting capabilities, LearnWCH offers a level of transparency and efficiency previously unavailable. “Before, we had to manually pull reports and sift through outdated data,” Neha explains. “Now, everything is automated and instantly accessible through our dashboards. This will significantly improve our ability to track training completion and compliance.”

Empowering Staff with More Learning Options

In addition to required training, staff now have the ability to select additional courses relevant to their roles from a comprehensive learning catalogue. This gives employees greater control over their professional development and supports a culture of continuous learning at WCH.

LearnWCH also includes an authoring tool, enabling administrators and educators to update existing training modules or create new content as needed. “Watch for more information in the coming months about this tool called EasyGenerator,” adds Amy, “which will empower subject matter experts to create engaging, interactive learning modules tailored to the unique needs of the healthcare community.”

Ongoing Improvements and Support

As with any system transition, LearnWCH will continue to evolve to suit the needs of WCH staff, physicians, patients, and partners, with ongoing updates and improvements planned in the coming months. “This is a work in progress,” Neha notes. “We’ll be making updates and enhancements based on user feedback to ensure the best possible experience for all who interact with the platform.”

“Of note, as we work to make sure all historical education and training records are transferred over to LearnWCH, user dashboards may not fully reflect all training completed by an individual. Expect to see all complete courses reflected on your dashboard in the coming weeks.”

Principal among the ongoing considerations is the team’s commitment to accessibility. “LearnWCH supports equitable access to learning by accommodating diverse learning preferences and ensuring all users can benefit from high-quality training, regardless of their role,” adds Gleiser.

“We also appreciate that transitioning from what we know and are comfortable with to a new way of doing things can sometimes lead to questions and concerns,” adds Neha. “We remain committed to supporting those who require help to ensure a smooth transition.”

With LearnWCH, WCH is taking a significant step forward in making training and education more accessible, efficient, and data-driven, which aligns with the Learning Institute’s dedication to humanistic education and care. This new platform serves as a vital tool in creating lifelong learners and supporting the professional growth of future healthcare professionals and informed patients.
