Call for Applicants for the Jessie Young Scholarship

Women’s College Hospital (WCH) nursing staff can now begin submitting their applications for the Jessie Young Scholarship. Please see applications requirements below.

Note regarding submissions: This award is self-nominating, and requires the applicant to submit a nomination form, a letter of application, and a resume in support of their application. See the process notes below for more information.

History/Purpose

This fund was originally established to honour the memory of Miss Jessie Young, who was the Director of Nursing at Women’s College Hospital between 1952 and 1972. The purpose of the Jessie Young Award is to financially support educational programs and resources, which are directly related to the improvement and/or enhancement of patient care and nursing practice at Women’s College Hospital. Up to one award of $5000 will be granted to a full or part-time WCH nurse during Nursing Week.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must be

  • In the final year of their RPN or BScN or pursuing graduate work in Nursing or a related program.
  • Employed full or part-time as a nurse at WCH
  • Preference will be given to nursing staff with a demonstrated interest in women’s health. If there are no appropriate candidates, the award will not be given out.

PROCESS:

Applicants for the scholarship will write a letter of application which outlines their academic pursuits and provide evidence of the commitment and expertise in women’s health, as well as to the development of academic ambulatory nursing care at WCH.
