2. Where were you born? If you were born outside of Canada, when did you come to Canada?

I was born in Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa, on the Atlantic Ocean. I landed as a permanent immigrant to reunite with my wife and son in July 2008. Since then I’ve never felt like going back because to me, Canada is my home.

2. Why did you choose to work at Women’s College Hospital?

The fact that WCH is close to home. I feel I am working in an inclusive environment. Colleagues are like family. I cycle to work every day throughout the year. I work Monday to Friday 0730 to 1530, no evenings, no calls. I always tell anybody who ask me that this is my perfect retirement plan. This place gives me time to focus on my family life so I will be here as long as my health and abilities permit.

3. Why is Black History and Futures Month significant to you?

It gives me the sense that our ancestors’ sacrifices to build this world were not vain. It makes me proud to witness that their contribution to humanity is acknowledged, recognized and celebrated every year. Being part of the generation that teaches the new generations to express their opinions freely and learn about their past to help build a more inclusive society tomorrow, makes me feel engaged more than ever.
