For International Women’s Day (IWD), we asked some of our staff what their vision for a gender equal future is and how they’re helping to build that future.
Name: Tim Dwyer
Pronouns: He/Him
Title & Department: Orthopedic surgeon, Department of Surgery
On the WCH team for: 10 years
1. What is your vision for a gender equal future?
At this time in Canada it is estimated that only 10 – 13% of orthopedic surgeons are women. In the future, I hope see more opportunities for women in surgery.
2. How are you helping to build that future, both at work and in your life?
It is important that I continuously work to encourage and support women in their journey to become orthopedic surgeons.
3. Who or what are you celebrating for International Women’s Day?
I will be celebrating with my daughter and partner! We’ll likely re-read my daughter Simone’s book, “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Tales of Extraordinary Women”.
4. Tell us one to three things that your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you.
Despite being Australian, I love to ski and play hockey. I also play saxophone and guitar, and have been learning to play piano with my daughter over the last few years.
