Statement on the Terrorist Act in London, Ontario

June 8, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

On Sunday night in London, ON a family of five was attacked in a planned and premeditated terrorist act simply because they were Muslim. This is an absolutely unimaginable loss and we condemn this abhorrent act of violence. Our hearts go out to the families and the Muslim community as they grieve.

Acts of hatred, violence and racism of any kind have no place at Women’s College Hospital or our community. Women’s College is a safe place and welcomes people of all faiths and backgrounds. In this time of reflection, we stand with Canada’s Muslim community against this hatred, recognizing that as allies we must not only speak out against Islamophobia but actively challenge and help to dismantle the structures that enable racism and hate to develop in the first place.

I would also like to acknowledge the pain so many in the community are feeling right now. I know many of you have experienced acts of aggression, prejudice and hate simply as a result of your faith. These are extraordinary difficult times for many and for those in need of support, our Employee and Family Assistance Program (1-800-387-4765) is available.

Sincerely,

Heather
