Volunteer Week: Meet Claire

April 16, 2024

Happy National Volunteer Week! We’re featuring our dedicated volunteers, to offer the WCH community a chance to get to know each other and share our stories.

Name: Claire Cui

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

On the WCH team for: 1 year

1. Why did you start volunteering with WCH?

I started volunteering with WCH because I wanted to contribute to my community through healthcare, which is something I am very passionate about. Volunteering at WCH gives me the opportunity to support and advocate for the importance of women’s health.

2. What does your typical volunteer shift look like?

As a wayfinding volunteer, I help direct patients to their appointments when they come out of the elevator. I also assist patients in checking in with the self check-in kiosks, and answer any questions they have regarding booking appointments.

3. How does your volunteer work contribute to creating a positive patient experience?

For patients who don’t regularly come to WCH, navigating the hospital can be a difficult experience. Patients who come to the 5th floor can often be confused by the layout of the different clinics. By helping patients find the right clinic, they will hopefully arrive at their appointment on time and lessen the stress of coming to the hospital.

4. What’s your favourite part of volunteering with WCH?

My favourite part of volunteering with WCH is interacting with the staff and patients. I greatly admire the work that the staff put into making a great patient experience, and I’m thankful to be a part of that experience. Interacting with the patients who come in really helps me gain an appreciation for the WCH community.
