Welcome

To those joining Women’s College Hospital as a student learner, welcome! We are thrilled you chose to continue your education with us, and we look forward to being part of your healthcare education journey. To those who work to support the learners, thank you! We couldn’t provide these critical placement opportunities without you.

Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto (UofT) Women’s College Hospital is a world-leading institute in health for women, health equity and health system solutions – a hospital designed to keep people out of the hospital with specialty clinics offering unique and one-of-a-kind experiences. Annually hosting over 1200 student learners per year from a variety of health professions these learners have the opportunity to participate with world-class educators in the provision of high-quality person-centred care.

Through a year of adversity, challenge and uncertainty, WCH has evolved how we operate and work together. Our priority is the safety and well-being of the entire WCH community, including patients, their caregivers and everyone who learns and works at WCH. Through a combination of in-person and virtual visits, we continue to offer our services in the safest way possible.

There is no doubt that in the past year the way health care is delivered has changed and adapted. In many ways, the experience has shown that WCH is ready to embrace the future. We also know that today’s successes will be followed by new and unexpected health care challenges tomorrow. Continuing to support lifelong learning is a key focus here at WCH, as new practices and advances are being pioneered constantly.

We thank all our staff, learners, educators, researchers, volunteers and community members for their dedication and hard work, especially during these challenging times of COVID-19.

If you’re ready to be part of a team that is revolutionizing the future of healthcare, then you will want to join an institution where the possibilities for innovation, new discovery and system thinking are limitless. At Women’s College Hospital, we value leadership, innovation, collaboration, relationships, equity and safety – and are guided by these values in everything we do.

Women’s College Hospital is a world leader in health for women, health equity and health system solutions – a hospital designed to keep people out of the hospital. With over 150 patient-facing, 400 non-patient-facing employees, 175 volunteers and 1200 learners annually, WCH has continued to build the rich legacy established by our founders since 1883. We are developing ground-breaking innovations that address issues related to population health, patient experience and system costs. We advocate for health equity because we know that a healthy society requires a level playing field where everyone has access to timely, high-quality, efficient and compassionate care.

“I had a great learning experience during my fieldwork placement at Women’s College Hospital in the alternate level of care (ALC) unit. I was provided with many learning opportunities by my Occupational Therapist preceptor, to help enhance my knowledge and develop my skills. She was a very patient, supportive and approachable preceptor who adjusted her teaching style to meet my learning style. All staff members that I interacted with in my orientation, as well as the fieldwork education coordinator and the ALC team were kind, respectful and supportive.”

“Women’s College hospital provides a supportive and enabling learning environment for students. Throughout my placement, the healthcare team strived to help me achieve my learning goals and played an integral part in the development of my nursing education. I truly felt like I was a part of the team throughout my placement, and would recommend this learning opportunity to any future students.”

Together at WCH, we are building a movement to revolutionize healthcare. We transform healthcare and co-create the best health possible through innovative care, research, policy, education and system solutions. Learn more about our Vision, Mission & Values.
